Deane Henryson, LCSW

Deane (Dean) Henryson is the author of the psychological self-help book, Be Yourself (available at Amazon.com), and the developer of the app TIC Therapeutic Interactive Coping (available at Google play).

He has over twenty-six years of experience working with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families with varieties of issues. These include anxiety, depression, chronic pain or illness, helping children through parents' divorce, loss or grief, obsessive-compulsive behavior, anger-management, parenting, helping children to follow directions, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, dream interpretation, sexual abuse/rape, and physical abuse.

Self-empowerment comes from gaining mindfulness of your feelings and the positive directions they provide. Deane has also published fiction novels, such as A Love in Darkness. Storytelling is one of the oldest therapeutic means to help people by using metaphor, which he has utilized not just in his books, but also when appropriate in his practice.

He has been certified in evidenced based approaches such as trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, seeking safety, and managing and adaptive practice. He utilizes a secular therapy framework. His experience also includes addictions, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, self-esteem, bullying, improving communication, disabilities, LGBTQ+ issues, reducing stress and life coaching.

Deane’s expertise is in allowing people to reflect on their lives, helping them understand their inner workings. Being where the client is at is a driving force in his therapy. He utilizes interventions such as Socratic questioning to facilitate reflection. He was the leader of this approach at his previous agency. Deane also practices mindful meditation on a regular basis, a proven form of stress reduction.

He also has studied creativity, applied it to his own art of writing, and worked with the particular struggles that artists undergo.
